Leadership Development & Teaching Team
Jimmy Knott, Teaching Pastor at First Baptist Church, Orlando, Florida, is a native Tennessean. He earned his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1973. That same year, he married Linda Lewis, his high school sweetheart. After working as an engineer for the DuPont Company in Nashville, Jimmy felt the Lord’s leadership into the ministry. He enrolled at New Orleans Theological Seminary, and earned his M. Div., in 1976. Jimmy has been on staff at First Baptist Church of Orlando since June 1980. Jimmy earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in May 2002.
Jimmy loves leaders and leader development. He is an insightful Bible teacher who seeks to make God’s Word relevant and practical. For over twenty-five years, Jimmy had oversight of the adult new member assimilation and the deacon’s ministry at First Baptist Orlando. Jimmy is also deeply committed to training and mentoring existing and emerging leaders.
Jimmy and Linda have four children, Stephanie, Jeremy, Jonathan and Justin and three grandchildren, Tyler, Alyssa and James. Jimmy’s passion is to assist believers in maximizing their impact for Christ and that is the goal of this website.
Raised on a farm a few miles from Jimmy’s home, Linda met Jimmy in the first grade. They began to date their senior year of high school, and married after she completed the University of Tennessee School of Pharmacy.
After two years of practicing pharmacy, Linda felt God say, “You are done with pharmacy” (she thought forever, but God meant for now). Raising four children, teaching Bible classes, speaking at conferences, and mentoring women became the focus of her time and energy.
During her daughter’s high school years she developed a discipleship program through the Bible Department of her Christian school. She recruited godly women to disciple the senior girls and wrote the curriculum for them as part of their Bible course.
After her daughter’s graduation, she began to “officially” teach in the Bible department of The First Academy. She taught for seven years, generally Old Testament and New Testament survey courses as well as Systematic Theology.
Linda taught a doctrine’s class in the Academy of Christian Training at FBC/Orlando for many years. She is currently teaching a Sunday morning ladies’ life group. She is also involved in ministry through the marketplace, by working as a hormone consultant for a compounding pharmacy. Her gifts of mercy and teaching create a perfect blend for this opportunity to encourage, educate, and give counsel to women during their journey through pre-menopause and menopause.
Linda’s passion for pharmaceuticals stems from the realization that God has made us fearfully and wonderfully. She holds strong to the belief that when we keep the components of our physiology, i.e., hormones, vitamins, minerals, etc., within the ranges He intended, we enjoy an elevated level of health and energy to pursue kingdom business.
Linda and Jimmy have been married since 1973, and reside in Orlando, Florida. They have four grown children and three grandchildren.
